Bihar man 'killed' in 2022 found alive
DARBHANGA, Oct. 7 -- A nonspeaking man, who was presumed murdered nearly four years ago in Samastipur's Lalpur was found alive and working in Delhi, raising questions over the police investigation that had led to the arrest and imprisonment of four people for murder without the recovery or identification of the body, officials aware of the matter said.
The man, identified as Ravishankar Kumar, a resident in his late 20s, was found at a fruit shop in the national capital on October 2, according to local police.
The case dates back to 2022, when Madan Yadav filed a complaint alleging that his son, Ravishankar, had been kidnapped and murdered. In his initial statement, Yadav accused Mukesh Pandit, Sahdev Pandit, Dinesh Pandit, and Chhotu Mahto of kidnapping and murdering his son, claiming the group had disposed of the body.
Following the complaint, police registered a case and arrested all four accused, who were subsequently sent to judicial custody. Chhotu Mahto, one of the accused, stated that he spent three months and 18 days in jail before eventually being released on bail.
On October 2, Akash Kumar, who is also from Lalpur and works in Noida, spotted Kumar at the fruit shop. He informed people in Lalpur, following which a group from the village visited Delhi, brought him back to Samastipur, and handed him over to the police on Monday.
Deputy police superintendent Sanjay Sinha said that a fresh investigation will be conducted into his case.
He said that they will record Kumar's statement through a support service interpreter. "As he is mute, we have sought a court's permission to engage a support service interpreter for his statement. Once his statement is recorded, further action will be taken based on the findings," he said....
