Bihar Lok Bhawan puts on hold senate and syndicate appointments in 13 universities
PATNA, Oct. 9 -- The Bihar Lok Bhawan on Thursday put on hold its October 6 order nominating over 50 Chancellor's nominees for senate and syndicate of 13 of the 14 state universities.
It was seen as a major decision to nominate Chancellor's nominees for both the decision making bodies in all the state universities in one go, but the way it has been withheld within a couple of days has sparked speculations.
The Chancellor's nominees were appointed for Senate, Syndicate, Transfer Committees for Principals, PG Teachers, Screening Committee and Selection Committee Under Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) for teachers on October 6.
With the latest order on October 8, the Syndicate and Senate nominees have been put on hold, while others remain.
The only university which has avoided the axe is the Aryabhat Knowledge University (AKU), where just one Chancellor's nominee was appointed. Dr Vivekanand Singh, Professor of Philosophy, Patliputra University, Patna was appointed Chancellor's nominee in the AKU.
However, why all nominations for Senate and Syndicate have been withheld in a sudden move remains unknown. Senior officials are tight lipped on the matter. "The Chancellor has put it on hold. Maybe he wants to have a relook once he returns," said a senior official. According to officials, the nominations did not go down well due to the choices made and the political requirements, as hitherto mostly political representatives got nominated.
"Some members, who took voluntary retirement on health grounds were also in the list, while there were also others with tainted track record serving as registrar and office bearers also found place. Perhaps, once things were pointed out, the list was withheld," said a senior education functionary. Speculations are rife that there were nominees with different political affiliations averse to the ABVP, RSS, Shiksha Sanskriti Nyas, which led to the decision to withhold....
