Bihar: Jail official's wife, 28, found dead
SAMASTIPUR, Feb. 13 -- A 28-year-old woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances at her in-laws' residence in Samastipur district on Wednesday evening, police said.
The incident took place in Sherpur village under the jurisdiction of Vidyapatinagar police station. Upon receiving information, police reached the spot, recovered the body, and sent it for post-mortem examination.
The deceased was the wife of Nandu Choudhary, an assistant jail superintendent posted at Darbhanga jail, and the daughter-in-law of Ram Anuj Choudhary of Sherpur village.
Vidyapatinagar station house officer (SHO) Suraj Kumar said an FIR (No. 38/26) was registered on Thursday based on a complaint filed by the woman's family. Five persons - including her husband, parents-in-law, and other relatives - have been named under sections related to dowry death.
"All the accused are currently absconding. Raids are being conducted to trace them," the SHO said. He added that the exact cause of death would be determined after the post-mortem report.
"Only after receiving the medical findings will it be clear whether this is a case of suicide or homicide. The investigation is being carried out from all angles," he said.
The complainant, Shashibhushan Choudhary of Agamkuan in Patna and the victim's elder brother, alleged that his sister had been facing harassment since her marriage on May 31, 2023.
Members of the husband's family, however, told police that the couple had argued shortly before the incident and alleged that the woman took the extreme step in anger....
