Bihar: 18 get life sentence in ASI murder case
PATNA, Sept. 16 -- An Araria court on Monday sentenced 18 men to life imprisonment for their role in the murder of an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Rajiv Ranjan Mall during an attack on police team by villagers to free a notorious criminal Anmol Yadav in Phulkaha police station area on March 12 this year. The 45-yr-old ASI had collapsed, lost consciousness and was declared dead when rushed to Araria Sadar Hospital. Anmol, who was accused under Arms Act and NDPS Act, was arrested on March 20.
Additional public prosecutor of Araria district and sessions court Prabha Kumari said, "Arguments over the quantum of punishment were carried out. In the evening, the court of additional district and sessions judge-IV Ravi Kumar sentenced 18 convicts to life imprisonment. Penalties of Rs.30,000 have also been imposed on each accused.."
Araria police filed charge sheet against the 18 accused on May 31 while the trial court took cognisance on July 7 and framed charges against them on July 21....
