PATNA, Sept. 22 -- Six children drowned in a waterlogged field in Bhagalpur on Monday morning while bathing ahead of the Karma-Dharma festival, police said, attributing the incident to recent heavy rainfall that caused the Ganga to rise and flood local agricultural lands. Police said the incident took place around 10 am in the Narayanpur Bahiyar locality under the Sultanganj police station limits. The children had gone to the flooded field area for a ritual bath and preparations for the Karma-Dharma festival. While bathing, one of them slipped into a deeper section of the waterbody. Seeing the victim drown, the other children present tried to rescue him, but due to a lack of proper understanding of the depth and the swamp, all six children went into the deep water holding each other's hands. As soon as the incident was reported, hundreds of villagers rushed to the spot. Local swimmers jumped into the water and pulled out all six children in an unconscious state after much effort, taking them to the Community Health Centre (CHC) where doctors declared all six dead after a thorough check-up. The victims were identified as Puja Kumari (13), Rahul Kumar (14), Vikas Kumar (13), Ayush Kumar (12), Meenakshi Kumari (12) and Jyoti Kumari (14). Five of the children belonged to Bishnu Tola in Ward 27 of the Nagar Parishad area, while Jyoti was a resident of Ranchdidipur village. In another incident, the Bhagalpur's Kajraili police station recovered the bodies of two minors who had been missing since Sunday. Police said the minors, residents of Gaurachowki Harijan Tola, were found floating in the water at Kelapur Bahiar on Monday morning. According to the police, the two girls had left home together at around 8 am on Sunday to prepare for the Karma-Dharma festival....
