PURNEA, Aug. 11 -- A 35-year-old government high school teacher was shot dead in front of her two children allegedly by her husband who works as a bank official in Bihar's Purnea following a domestic dispute, police said on Monday. The couple's two children, a son (9) and a daughter (4), narrated the scene to their relatives and police. The children alleged that their mother was shot in her chest. "He escaped with the pistol after shooting," they added. Officials said that a massive manhunt has been launched to nab the husband who fled after allegedly committing the crime late Sunday. Police said Shalini Kumari worked at Devinagar Plus-Two School in Srinagar block. She was living with her husband and two children in Purnea town area under Khazanchi Hat police station limits. According to the victim's family members, Shalini was a resident of Jabalpatti in Madhepura and got married to Rajkumar Yadav of Raniganj in Araria in 2014. Station house officer (SHO) Jai Prakash Singh said, "Prima facie, it appears that the incident took place after a domestic dispute. The couple's son told relatives about the incident who then informed us. We took Shalini to the government medical college and hospital (GMCH) Purnea where the doctor declared her dead. An investigation is underway." Meanwhile, the post mortem of the deceased was conducted on Monday and the body was handed over to the relatives for last rites. "We have registered a case under various sections including murder under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Multiple teams are carrying out raids to arrest Rajkumar who is attached with a bank in Purnea.
