B'deshi man gets over 2 years of jail for illegal stay in India
KISHANGANJ, Oct. 8 -- The court of additional district and session judge (ADJ-1) Suresh Kumar Singh on Tuesday convicted a Bangladeshi national for illegal entry into India and sentenced him to 2 years and six months of simple imprisonment (SI) and also slapped a fine of Rs 10, 000. In case of non-payment of fine the prison will be extended to one month.
The 38-year-old Bangladeshi national identified as Mohammad Asraf Ali, a resident of Barisal district of Bangladesh had illegally infiltrated the Indian Territory from Bangladesh via Nepal and was arrested by Galgalia police in 2024.
Later Police lodged a case against him under section 14 and section 14 A of the Foreigner Act, 1946 and since then he has been facing trial as an under-trial prisoner. The court has directed to adjust the period spent in judicial custody during investigation and trial.
Meanwhile this ruling follows heightened surveillance by border security forces and the police to track down undocumented foreigners sneaking across regional boundaries....
