Arms peddler held with 4,000 live cartridges in Begusarai
PATNA, Aug. 19 -- An inter-state arms peddler was arrested and over 4,000 live cartridges were seized from him by a joint team of the Bihar Special Task Force (STF) and Begusarai police, officials said.
The accused, identified as Ravish Singh, a resident of Sahebpur Kamal police station area, was arrested from Lohianagar locality.
"Singh procured ammunition from Uttar Pradesh and supplied them to criminals in Begusarai, Khagaria, Munger and other districts," said Begusarai Superintendent of Police (SP) Maneesh.
The STF had been tracking the racket, and on Sunday received a tip-off about a consignment of illegal ammunition to be delivered under Lohianagar police station limits.
"A joint team laid a trap at Lohianagar. A Brezza car coming from the railway station side was intercepted. Its driver, later identified as Singh, was apprehended and 4,000 live cartridges, Rs.1 lakh in cash, Aadhaar card, driving licence, mobile phones and ATM cards were recovered," the SP said.
During interrogation, Singh admitted he had purchased the cartridges in Uttar Pradesh for Rs.15 lakh and sold them in the black market, making a profit of about Rs.10 lakh. Further investigation is underway, police said....
