8-year-old boy among 7 killed in lightning strikes across 3 districts
PURNEA, June 12 -- At least seven people lost their lives and as four others were injured after lightning struck them while working in fields in three districts in Bihar's Khagaria, Saharsa and Madhepura on Thursday, police said.
In Khagaria, after the weather turned inclement, 10 people harvesting maize crops started looking for shelter when lightning struck them, killing four of them at the spot.
The dead were identified as 55-year-old Vidyanand Yadav, 30-year-old Ashutosh Yadav and his eight-year-old son. All the victims were residents of Baltara village under Gogri block.
Circle officer (CO) Deepak Kumar said that the injured persons are undergoing treatment at Chautham community health centre (CHC) and doctors said they are out of danger.
Meanwhile, station house officer (SHO) Ajeet Kumar said that one Kush Kumar, in his mid 20s, died when lightning struck him in Naradpur village under Beldaur block.
In Saharsa, 35-year-old farmer Heera Yadav died while struck by lightning. He was in his Moong (Lentil) farm when lightning struck him.
In Madhepura, a couple was killed when they were harvesting maize in Parel village under Alamnagar block, police said. The deceased have been identified as 35-year-old Shambhu Mandal and his 30-year-old wife Kavita Devi.
Station house officer (SHO) Sajan Kumar Paswan said, "The bodies were sent to Madhepura district hospital for post-mortem."
Circle officer (CO) Divya Kumari said that the ex gratia amount of Rs.4 lakh would be provided to the family after postmortem....
