BETTIAH, Sept. 5 -- Pakaridayal police, in coordination with special task force (STF), arrested eight people, including three women, for their alleged involvement in the sale of a newborn for Rs.1.8 lakh and seized cash and two vehicles including an ambulance during the rescue operation in East Champaran on Thursday evening, police said. Pakaridayal's station house officer (SHO) Abhishek Kumar said that acting on a tip off, a team of local police and SFT intercepted an ambulance and a car near a private hospital at Pakaridayal, while it was heading towards Chorma Bazaar. They took in eight people for interrogation after they were found in possession of a newborn, he added. "They broke down under police interrogation and confessed to their involvement in the sale of a newborn, a deal struck for Rs.1.8 lakh. The infant, who was being transported to Patna, was rescued and has been admitted to an ICU," said the station house officer. Police said the child working committee (CWC) has been informed of the matter. The infant's mother has been admitted in a different hospital after she delivered the baby. Police seized an ambulance, a car and nine cellhones, besides Rs.1.2 lakh from the possession of those arrested, said police in an official statement....
