70-year old accused dies in police custody in Vaishali
PATNA, Sept. 8 -- Hashim Shah, 70, an accused of attacking police team, died in police custody at a hospital in Vaishali district on Sunday. However, the family members alleged he died due to thrashing by police in lock-up.
SDPO Subodh Kumar said an FIR was lodged with Rajapakar police station on Friday night in connection with the attacking and assaulting of police personnel. Five persons were arrested in this regard. They were taken into custody at Mahua police station. "One of the accused Hashim Shah's health deteriorated suddenly and he was admitted to sadar hospital but he died during treatment," he added.
The SDPO said the post-mortem would be conducted by a medical board under the supervision of a magistrate with videography. "Later, the body will be handed over to the family."
After the incident, senior police officials are camping in the area to maintain law and order. Additional forces had been deployed to thwart the possibility of any untoward incident....
