Jamshedpur, Aug. 24 -- The East Singhbhum administration has ordered monitoring by drones, CCTV cameras, ATMS, GPS and e-chalan to reduce accidents on the highways and city roads after 60 deaths in 104 road accidents were reported in the district in past four months, officials said on Sunday. The decision was taken in the meeting of the highway task force and road safety committee, chaired by East Singhbhum deputy commissioner Rajiv Ranjan. "Road safety is not just an issue about compliance of traffic rules but it is directly linked to people's lives. I have directed the officials to remove illegal roadside parkings - both on highways and city roads - illegal eateries and continuous patrolling on the highways. We are adopting round the clock monitoring of the traffic on the city roads and highways with drones, CCTV cameras, ATMS, GPS and e-chalan system henceforth. The police, traffic and transport department officials have been asked to focus on identified black spots," Rajiv Ranjan said. Officials said the meeting found wrong side driving, overspeed, triple driving, drunk driving, driving without helmet and seat belt as the main reasons for increasing number of fatal accidents. According to the district administration records, six persons died in 21 accidents in the district in July, 11 died in 24 and 15 were injured in 24 accidents in June, 19 persons died and 15 were injured in 28 accidents in May and 14 persons died and 14 persons were injured in 31 accidents in April, 2026. The DC also directed the officials to remove encroachments, blocks and disturbance from the 'Right of Way' areas of the roads. "Officials have been asked to ensure wayside amenities, medical help, availability of cranes, adequate lighting, lay bay parking and quick response system for rescue and relief. Impose speed limit, no-parking, school zones, no-horn, u-turn, zebra crossing and direction signages and bright reflectors wherever needed," the DC said....
