6 injured, JCB torched in clash during drive against encroachment
BETTIAH, July 10 -- Six people, including forest department personnel, were injured in a clash with villagers that broke out during an anti-encroachment drive in Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR) in West Champaran district on Thursday, officials said.
According to the police, the violence erupted when a team of forest officials reached the encroached site to clear illegal structures at Thari village in VTR under Valmikinagar police station area. Some villagers also torched a JCB.
"As forest personnel initiated the action to remove the encroachment on the forest land, a large number of the villagers gathered and opposed the drive, leading to a confrontation," said Nihar Bhusan, Bagaha sub-divisional police officer.
Senior forest and police officials reached the spot and took charge. The injured were taken to a nearby government hospital where they were administered primary treatment.
"Trouble-makers are being identified and a probe is on," Bhusan added....
