6 girls rescued from orchestra troupes; 5 held
BETTIAH, May 18 -- Sanichari police in Bihar's West Champaran district rescued six girls - five of them hailing from West Bengal and one from neighbouring Nepal - from two orchestra troupes on Sunday, police said.
They also arrested five persons on charges of alleged human trafficking, the police added.
Rajnish Priyadarshi, sub divisional police officer (SDPO), Sadar -2 said that acting on a tip off, a police team raided two orchestra troupes at Bahuharwa village and rescued six girls during the operation.
"One of the girls from West Bengal alleged that she was pregnant. Probe is on," he added.
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has directed Bettiah superintendent of police Shaurya Suman to take action following a complaint from an NGO alleging that several girls had been trafficked from various states to West Champaran.
Police were yet to register a case at the time of filing this report....
