Jamshedpur, Aug. 12 -- Continuing the series of surrenders, four more Maoists, led by Saluka Kayam, a zonal committee member (ZCM) of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) carrying a bounty of Rs.10 lakh, surrendered before the Jharkhand Police and CRPF at the Chaibasa Police Centre on Tuesday, taking the total number of Maoists who have surrendered to 49, police said. This officially marked the possible end of the Maoist menace in the West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand, as the last remaining Maoist squad led by Saluka Kayam alias Bhuvneshwar alias Maru, active in Saranda, Kolhan and Porahat Forest divisions, laid down arms and ammunition before the Kolhan DIG Anuranjan Kisphotta and CRPF DIG on Tuesday. According to the police, 49 Naxals in the district have surrendered, 22 have been eliminated and 60 Naxals have been captured from 2025 to July, 2026. "ZCM Saluka Kayam alias Bhuvneshwar alias Maru alias Vikram alias Dangil surrendered with an AK-47 assault rifle, two of its magazines and 843 rounds of live cartridges. Kodamuni Kora alias Padmani alias Kitamai, with a bounty of Rs 1 lakh, surrendered with a walkie-talkie and 697 rounds of live cartridges. Saluka Kayam's wife Pinky Purty was also active in Naxal activities and was wanted in 13 cases in West Singhbhum district; she surrendered a walkie-talkie and 639 rounds of live cartridges. This apart, Anita Kayam alias Anita Tamsoy surrendered with an INSAS rifle and 97 rounds of live cartridges. She has 12 cases of Maoist subversive acts pending in West Singhbhum district and one case in Seraikela-Kharsawan district," Anuranjan Kisphotta, Kolhan Deputy Inspector General (DIG), told the media in Chaibasa on Tuesday. Saluka Kayam, originally hailing from Kayam tollah in Kudaburu village under the Sonua police station (PS), was wanted in 90 cases pending in different PS areas of West Singhbhum and six cases in Seraikela-Kharsawan district. Kodamuni Kora originally hailed from Rengrahatu village under Tonto PS while Pinky Purty alias Sukanti Purty alias Mecho Purty hails from Ichagora village under Goilkera PS limits and Anita Kayam alias Anita Tamsoy alias Mukta hails from Anjedbera village under the Chaibasa Mufassil PS limits....
