40-yr-old man rapes, kills ailing woman on pretext of exorcism
GAYA JI, Aug. 30 -- An ailing woman was raped and brutally killed by smashing her head with a stone in Gaya Ji district on Thursday late night after she was called by a man to his house on the pretext of exorcising the evil spirit, police said.
Police further said that the incident occurred at Barai village, which falls under the jurisdiction of Anti police station of the district. The man also tried to kill the daughter and the old mother-in-law of the deceased but they survived.
After getting information, a police team reached the spot and rushed both the critically injured to a government hospital at Konch, Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Sushant Kumar Chanchal said.
Police said that the husband of the deceased worked in Bangalore and she was living at home with her daughter and mother-in-law.
The accused Sanjay Chaudhary (40) came to her house in the night and said that she was "under the influence of evil spirits" and needed an exorcism, they added.
The accused took the woman to his under-construction house outside the village where he raped and then killed her by crushing the head with a stone. After the woman did not return home for hours, the daughter and mother-in-law went to the house of the accused, where they saw the woman lying dead in bushes outside his house, police said.
The accused also attacked them with a heavy stone and fled after they fell unconscious. The girl raised an alarm after regaining consciousness, following which locals informed the Anti police station.
A case of murder and attempted murder has been registered against the accused. Two members of his family are being questioned about his whereabouts.
The body was sent to Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital, Gaya, for post-mortem, and the police are awaiting the report. Raids are being conducted to arrest the accused, the SDPO added....
