40 held for arson on Atal Path
PATNA, Aug. 27 -- Patna police on Tuesday arrested 40 persons, including a ward councillor, in connection with blocking the road, stone pelting and arson that took place on Atal Path late on Monday evening to protest against the police inaction in solving the mysterious killing of the two minor siblings in Patna on August 15.
Patna SSP Kartikey K Sharmaon Tuesday disclosed that a ward councilor Tutu and Shwet Ranjan, said to be a lawyer, a resident of Ghoshwari but staying at Boring Road in Patna, had carried out the incident in a planned manner. Tutu had hatched a conspiracy for political gain.
"The ward councilor had struck a deal with the lawyer for Rs 2 lakh. Some miscreants were called from different localities to execute the incident," he added.
The SSP said that the police had arrested seven persons late on Monday night from the spot. On the basis of CCTV footage, the police had detained 62 persons of whom 40 persons including a ward councilor Tutu and lawyer Shewat Ranjan were arrested on Tuesday for interrogation, he added.
The SSP said, "Ranjan had brought the miscreants from different localities that attacked the police on Atal Path and they also included the victim's family in the incident who were unaware about the incident. Some women who were also involved in the incident have been arrested in this connection."
The SSP said that they executed the incident for want of compensation who could share among them. The victim's family was used in the crime as they were unaware about it. The police had shared a postmortem report with the family which cleared that there was no evidence of murder....
