4 cops held for extortion of Rs.1.5L from Jamui youth
PATNA, April 26 -- Four policemen deployed at the Pakribarawan excise police station in Bihar's Nawada district were arrested by Jamui police for allegedly extorting Rs.1.5 lakh from a Jamui youth for "carrying liquor" in his Creta car, police said on Saturday.
Police said an FIR was registered under BNS sections, including 138 (abduction) and 308(1) (extortion), against assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs) Sujit Kumar and Dilip Kumar, and two home guard jawans -- Ravinder Kumar and Gulshan Kumar -- based on a complaint filed by Pintu Kumar Yadav, a Jamui resident.
Pintu alleged that his elder brother Santosh Kumar left home around 1 pm on Thursday, but did not return till late evening. Around 7.30 pm, he received a call from Santosh who claimed to have been kidnapped in Nawada and demanded Rs.5 lakh for his release. Pintu, along with his brother-in-law and cousin, reached Pakribarawan excise police station in Nawada with Rs.2 lakh cash and allegedly secured the release of Santosh and his Creta car for Rs.1.5 lakh. They later filed a complaint at Town police station in Jamui.
Jamui SP Vishwajeet Dayal said, "An investigation revealed the involvement of two ASIs and two home guards who were arrested on Friday night. A team of Jamui police raided ASI Dilip's house and seized Rs.1.5 lakh in cash."...
