394 kg poppy husk, Rs.73L cash seized in East Champaran
BETTIAH, June 1 -- A five-member team of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) along with Motihari police arrested two alleged drug smugglers and seized a large quantity of narcotic substances and cash during midnight raids in Hindari Bazaar area of East Champaran, police said on Sunday.
Motihari additional station house officer (ASHO) Chandan Kumar said the raids were conducted at a grocery shop under his jurisdiction late Saturday. "Further details are being ascertained by the investigating agency," he said. Meanwhile, one accused was identified as Pappu Jaiswal.
An NCB official seeking anonymity told Hindustan Times that the seizure included Rs.73 lakh cash and 394 kilograms of poppy husk (dried stalks, stems and seed pods of opium poppy) from the godown of one of the smugglers. He, however, refused to divulge further information.
Another official said that the raid was conducted at Pappu's grocery shop in Hindari Bazaar area. The team found sacks of suspected narcotic substances and recovered poppy husk at the site. The team later searched the trader's residence and recovered the cash.
Sources in police said Pappu, who has been arrested in the case, is a native of Pipra and had been operating the grocery shop in Hindari Bazaar for the past four years. The grocery trader is said to own a large roadside hotel in Motipur in Muzaffarpur district, they said....
