34 CISF jawan injured in road accident in Bihar's saran
PATNA, Oct. 16 -- At least 34 personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) were injured, five of them reportedly in critical condition, after a sand-laden truck collided with a private bus carrying them on National Highway (NH) 531 in Bihar's Saran district early Wednesday, police said.
The personnel were on their way to Saran from Siwan railway station. "They had arrived at Siwan station by train from Delhi and were travelling by bus to Doriganj in Saran for election duty," said Saran Superintendent of Police (SP) Kumar Ashish.
According to a preliminary probe, the truck coming from Ekma was speeding when the driver allegedly lost control of the steering and rammed into the bus carrying 42 CISF jawans coming from the opposite direction near Pandey Chhapra village around 3 a.m.
"The injured were first taken to the Ekma Community Health Centre, from where doctors referred them to Chhapra Sadar Hospital. Later, they were shifted to Patna for better treatment," a police officer said.
The truck driver fled the spot after abandoning the vehicle. A 112 police team reached the site and rescued the trapped personnel. "The front portion of the bus was completely damaged and its windows shattered due to the impact," said one of the jawans.
"Cranes and earthmovers were used in the rescue operation. The accident caused traffic snarls that were later cleared by police," the officer added.
Police have registered an FIR under relevant sections of BNS. "We have obtained the vehicle's registration number and are tracing the absconding driver," the SP said. HTC...
