KATIHAR, Feb. 17 -- Around 300 shops in Kursela market of Bihar's Katihar district were gutted in a fire that broke out late Sunday evening, police said on Monday. The fire which is believed to have spread due to blast of multiple gas cylinders spread too quickly to give any chance to shopkeepers to come out with their belongings. However, no casualty was reported. The administration has started assessing the damage which is believed to be in several crores. Sub divisional magistrate (SDM) Pradyumn Singh who rushed to the site late evening said, "The fire has been controlled." He admitted that the fire brigade took a little longer to reach the site due to the narrow and encroached road. He said, "Prima facie reports suggest that at least 60 shops were gutted," adding,"We are conducting a survey of the damage." He assured the affected people/shopkeepers would be given adequate economic assistance to restart their business....
