3 fertiliser godowns sealed in Champaran
BETTIAH, Feb. 14 -- A joint team of Lauriya police and agriculture department officials sealed three godowns stocked with urea and fertilisers during a late-evening raid in West Champaran district on Thursday, officials said.
Lauriya Circle Officer (CO) Nitesh Kumar Seth said the action followed a tip-off.
The team raided Hari Om Fertiliser Store under Lauriya police station limits in the Bettiah sub-division.
"Preliminary investigation suggests the consignment was stockpiled despite the shop's licence having expired on January 19," the CO said. He also added that no arrests have been made so far.
Officials suspect the fertiliser stocks were meant to be smuggled into Nepal.
"We are trying to ascertain the source of the consignment, and efforts are underway to establish both forward and backward linkages," Seth said.
The seizure is the latest in a series of fertiliser-related actions in the region, raising concerns over black marketing and cross-border smuggling that could affect farmers' access to essential agricultural inputs. A probe is underway, said an official....
