BETTIAH, Aug. 1 -- A 45-year-old woman was allegedly killed in a tiger attack on the fringes of the forest in Bihar's Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR) on Friday as monsoon-triggered man-animal conflicts. The incident came a day after an elderly farmer, Aklu Yadav, a resident of Bisaha village under Valmikinagar police station, was attacked by a tiger at Hathi Malkhnata Pul in Valmiknagar forest range of VTR. He died on Friday, taking the toll to two in past few hours. "Yes, Aklu Yadav who was injured on Thursday died in the course of treatment in Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh," said Satyam Kumar, range officer, Valmikinagar forest range. Confirming Friday's incident, Naseem Ahmad Ansari, range officer of VTR's Madanpur forest range said the incident took place when the woman, Umarawati Devi (45), a resident of ward number 1 of Naurangiya village, was killed by a tiger while she was working in a field on the outskirts of her village abutting forest area on Friday. "Prima facie, she appears to have been killed by a tiger as canine marks were found around her neck," said the range officer, adding the body had been sent for autopsy. The incident came to light after her husband, Ramayan Choudhary, found her body near the forest fringe and alerted officials. The ongoing monsoon has forced wild animals out of their natural habitats and into human settlements with rise water levels, leading to casualties among wild animals as well. A tiger believed to have critically injured an elderly farmer on July 30 morning was later found dead in the forest of Valmiki Tiger Reserve forest, officials said, prompting an investigation into the matter. VTR's DFO division -2 Vikash Kumar Ahlawat said, "Tiger's viscera sample has been sent for examination to IVRI Bareilly and WWI at Dehradun for forensic testing."...
