PATNA, Sept. 23 -- A day after a widespread outrage over assault and molestation of two Class 10 minors -- a boy and a girl -- in Jamui and arrest of three suspects, one main accused was shot, while another sustained grievous leg injuries in an encounter with the state police, officers in the know of the development said. Members of the SIT, that led the operation to nab the alleged culprits, said that accused Nandlal Yadav received bullet injuries, while another Hareram Yadav fractured his leg as both them tried to flee from the police personnel after an early morning raid at their hideout. In total , five persons including three minors have been arrested who were involved in the horrific incident whereas two others are still being identified out of the seven persons suspected to have confronted the students on road while they were returning from Marawar hills on the outskirts of Jamui town on September 19 evening. On Monday afternoon, Bihar police had constituted a special investigation team(SIT) to nab the culprits. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Munger Range, Rakesh Kumar said one of the accused, Nandan Yadav, received a bullet wound on a leg. His accomplice, Hareram Yadav, fractured his knee while trying to flee from police, which had been conducting raids to nab the culprits since Monday, he said. "During the search operation, a criminal fired on the police team. In a retaliation, police fired on self defence, in which a bullet hit his right leg," said Munger DIG, adding that both the injured have been rushed to Sadar hospital where they under going treatment. "Both Nandan and Hareram have been hospitalised. Earlier, we had picked up three minors, who will be dealt with by the juvenile justice board," the DIG said. "We may pick up a few more people after interrogating Hareram and Nandan. From the video clip, it was not clear exactly how many persons were involved in the incident. However, we can safely say that the main accused have been caught. In fact, it was Nandan Yadav who was seen in the clip with his face wrapped in a scarf, leading the group," he said. Nandan Yadav, considered one of those who had confronted the teens, is the one who was seen in the viral video groping as well assaulting the minor girl, police said. Police said Yadav is the one who is seen in the video with his face covered with a saffron gamcha ( a long cotton cloth used to cover face and dry one's body after bathing in rural areas mostly) . Police said that the encounter took place around 5am today when a special investigation team (SIT) got information that two of the prominent accused Hareram and Nandan Yadav were on their way to outskirt of Pratappur village, in Jamui district. On getting information a police team rushed to Pratappur village and surrounding the area. One of them hid in west side of forest area. " After seeing the police team the man fled from the forest, turned turtle and got injured by falling," said one police officer. During interrogation, the man identified himself as Hareram and informed that Nandan Yadav was hiding on the other side of forest. On getting information about Nandan, police team immediately surrounded another side of forest and launch a search drive against him. Jamui Superintendent of Police Vishwajeet Dayal confirmed the arrest of five of the accused including three minors, out of seven identified by the police. "Although the incident is two days old, no complaint was made before us by the boy or the girl till Sunday. On Monday, when the video went viral, we traced the victims with the help of the registration number of a vehicle visible in the clip," said the SP. Police have also intensified action against individuals accused of sharing the video or disclosing information that could reveal the identity of the minor victim. Police warned that revealing the identity of a minor victim constitutes a serious offence and can attract action under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the Information Technology Act and the Juvenile Justice Act. Meanwhile, ADG Law and Order KS Anupam said, while talking to newsmen, said that Munger DIG had been asked to provide details as what was the location of the Dial 112 police cars, police patrol car and Nirbhaya Brigade team was on the day and time of the incident and why they did not get any information about the incident. " If there has been any laxity and negligence in this matter, strict action would be taken against policemen," said the ADG. In reply to another question as to why police had proactively started taking down the viral video despite the fact that the horrific incident had never come to light unless the video had surfaced, the ADG reasoned the videos were being taken down as per rules. "There is a provision in the Juvenile Justice Act and POCSO Act that the privacy of any minor cannot be violated as well as the video of touching their private parts cannot be revealed without hiding their identity. If the video had to be circulated, then the face of the girl and the boy should have been blurred and the information shared with the police," she added. Anupam said that so far 120 URLs have been marked and FIRs registered against them. "Besides, three persons who uploaded the video have been identified as Kundan Kumar Yadav, Mohammad Faiyyaz and Ramashish Kumar Choudary and arrested. Other people involved in the video are being identified and those arrested are also being questioned about other people involved in the incident. More arrests will be carried out if evidence is found," she added. Police have also arrested Kundan Kumar Yadav, Mohammad Faiyyaz and Ramashish Kumar Choudary on charges of making the video of the horrific incident viral. Police officers said in the evening that interrogation of three arrested minor boys have revealed that the video of the entire assault of the teens and groping of the girl was made by one of the them, who then had shared the clip with else and it went viral on Sunday and Monday morning....
