2 absconding accused held by EoU, probe on
PATNA, July 7 -- The Economic Offences Unit (EoU), investigating the 2023 constable exam question paper leak case, arrested a constable (driver) of the Bihar fire department, Janmajay Tiwari, absconding for long, police said on Monday. He was arrested from Charpokhri police station area of Bhojpur district on Sunday and sent to judicial custody on Monday.
The Central Selection Board of Constables(CSBC) conducted the exams on October 1, 2023. Six candidates were caught cheating during the examination at Ramakrishna Dwarika College, Lohianagar examination centre in Patna. An FIR was registered with Kankarbagh police station. In view of the seriousness of the matter and the possibility of organised rigging in the examination, the investigation was handed over to the EoU.
During interrogation of arrested candidates, digital evidence obtained from their mobile phones and other technical investigations revealed that the answer keys were sent through mobile phones active during the examination. In this case, constables Kamlesh Kumar, Om Prakash and gang member Abhishek Kumar Singh has already been arrested and forwarded to judicial custody.
Further investigation confirmed Janmajay's role in providing answer keys and his involvement with the gang members.
The recruitment exam was later cancelled after large-scale cheating and circulation of the question paper on social media during the test.
The EoU also arrested a former executive engineer of rural works department Ramchandra Gupta absconding since 2020 in connection with a forged document case. He allegedly submitted fake land papers in the name of his wife Poonam Gupta, in the course of investigation of a DA case. The EoU says the investigation in both cases is ongoing and the role of others associated with the entire network is also being probed....
