105 people killed in tiger attacks since formation of u'khand: Govt
Dehradun, Aug. 20 -- At least 105 people have been killed in tiger attacks in Uttarakhand since the formation of the state in 2000, the government informed the assembly on Tuesday.
In response to a question raised by MLA Vinod Kandari, forest minister Subodh Uniyal said that according to internal government data, 105 people were killed and 133 injured in tiger attacks between 2000 and 31 July 2025.
The minister added that the state's tiger population had almost tripled since 006, rising from a figure of 178 to a figure of 560 in 2022, as per tiger census reports, released every four years.
The state government, since 2005, had paid a total sum of Rs.30.5 crore as compensation to families of the deceased victims of man-animal conflict , and a sum of Rs.9.63 crore to those injured, the minister informed the House. The assistance, he added, was disbursed under the Human-Wildlife Conflict Relief scheme.
Uttarakhand reported third highest tiger population in the country with 560 tigers, while Corbett Tiger Reserve (CTR) recorded the highest tiger population with 260 tiger among the country's 53 tiger reserves, according to the tiger census report released in July 2023. There are more tigers outside Corbett, than found within Bandhavgarh (135) and Kanha (105)....
