RANCHI, June 23 -- In a 17-year-old Bitumen Scam case in Jharkhand, involving Rs.20.23 lakh, a CBI court here on Monday sentenced a private person to three years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs.1 lakh, people aware of the development said. A lower court advocate close to the matter said, "There were seven accused in the case including six public servants and one private individual. All six public servants were acquitted, while the private individual was sentenced." A statement issued by CBI public prosecutor Sushil Kumar confirmed the fact. The statement shared the details of the case. "Accused used less quantity of bitumen during the execution of the two contractual works submitting 13 fake bitumen invoices covering 114.616 MT bitumen worth Rs.20,23,982/-. After investigation, a chargesheet was submitted against 07 accused namely Jhaman Psd. ,Uttam Kujur, Radha Krishna Prasad, Akhileshwar Singh, Gyan Chand Chaudhary, Bhuneshwar Mahto and Ram Prakash Sahu under sections 420, 467, 471 IPC and sections 13(2) and 13(1)(d) of the PC Act read with section 120(B)," the statement reads. "Accused Jhaman Prasad (Pvt.person) has been sentenced for 3 yrs R.I. and a fine of Rs.40,000/- under sections 468 and 471 IPC,and 2 years and a fine of Rs.20,000/- u/s 420 IPC (total fine Rs.1 lac)In case of default in payment of fine, the accused is directed to undergo 6 months R.I. The remaining six accused who were public servants, have been acquitted from all charges," the statement further reads....
