Seventh victim dies; police register FIR
NEW DELHI, Aug. 17 -- A day after the collapse of a wall of a dargah near Humayun's Tomb, another victim succumbed to injuries on Saturday, raising the toll to seven, police said.
The collapse occurred around 3.55pm on Friday when two adjoining rooms of the shrine, known locally as Dargah Shareef Patte Waale, caved in following heavy rainfall, according to police and fire officials. The shrine, located adjacent to the Humayun's Tomb complex, was crowded with devotees due to the Independence Day holiday. Nearly a dozen people were trapped under the debris.
Police said five victims died during treatment at AIIMS Trauma Centre on Friday, while another died at Lok Nayak Hospital the same day. The seventh victim died at Safdarjung Hospital on Saturday. The deceased were identified as Swaroop Chand, 79, of Malkaganj; Mohammed Moin, 37, of Zakir Nagar; Monushka (one name); Meena Arora, 56, of Vasant Kunj Enclave; Anita Saini, 25, of Bhogal; Mohammed Abid, 37; and Arif, 25.
DCP (Southeast) Hemant Tiwari said, "An FIR under sections 290 (negligent act during demolition), 125 (endangering life due to negligent act) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been lodged against unidentified people."
Delhi Fire Services said four fire tenders and National Disaster Response Force personnel were deployed. Eleven people were rescued within two hours; nine - three men, five women and a four-year-old boy - were admitted to AIIMS Trauma Centre. The others were shifted to Lok Nayak and RML hospitals....
