Ghaziabad, Oct. 26 -- A six-year-old girl died and her mother was injured in Ghaziabad after a fire broke out in their first-floor flat at Tulsi Niketan early Saturday, police said. The woman, identified as Sabbi Parveen, 30, had moved in as tenants along with her daughter and husband, Mohammad Zakir, an auto-rickshaw driver, just two days ago, officers added. "Neighbours reported the fire around 2.30am on seeing smoke coming out from the flat. A police team, accompanied by fire department officials, rushed to the spot, and broke open the door locked from outside. The two victims were lying unconscious nearby. They were rushed to a Delhi hospital, where the girl succumbed. Parveen is undergoing treatment," said assistant commissioner of police (Shalimar Garden circle) Atul Kumar Singh. Officials said the victims did not sustain burn injuries, and possibly died of suffocation after inhaling toxic fumes, adding that Zakir was out for work at the time. "Zakir was supposed to return in the morning. So, he had locked the door from outside to avoid waking up the family. There was no electricity over unpaid bills. Parveen, therefore, had lit up some candles, one of which was placed above the refrigerator. The sheets of the refrigerator cover caught fire over the night of the incident," the ACP added. Chief fire officer (Ghaziabad) Rahul Pal, said, "The flat's main door and the window panes inside were broken to help with faster ventilation before the fire was doused." Zakir's in-laws do not suspect foul play, adding that the couple had a cordial relation, said the ACP....
