India, May 20 -- Abdul Qayyum Ansari, 51, and his family of eight waited patiently outside the Bandra (East) police chowky for the anti-encroachment drive to end on Tuesday.
The family has lived here since the 1980s and calls the space their home. "While there have been demolition threats a few times in the past, this is the first time it has actually happened," said Ansari, a labourer. "We never faced such an issue when other governments were in power. We have all decided to now approach the court."
"We grew up with our extended family. Our children go to school here too; and now we are homeless," he added....
