washington, July 17 -- The US Department of Homeland Security has ended the decades-old "duration of status" policy for foreign students, exchange visitors and journalists, replacing it with fixed visa validity periods. Under the new rule, international students will be allowed to stay for the duration of their academic programme, up to a maximum of four years, after which they must seek an extension.
