TMC on the brink as another mp indicates switch to rebel group
New Delhi/Kolkata, June 14 -- Veteran Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and six-time MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay met senior BJP leader and Union minister Bhupender Yadav in Delhi on Saturday, fuelling speculation that another Lok Sabha lawmaker may join the party's rebel ranks.
Bandyopadhyay was accompanied by dissident MP Satabdi Roy for the meeting, which came amid buzz that the rebel group may meet Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday to seek recognition as a separate parliamentary group. "The rebel MPs are relying on their legislative strength in both the assembly and Parliament to stake a claim to being recognised as the real TMC," said a person familiar with the matter.
TMC leaders aligned with party chief Mamata Banerjee hit out at Bandyopadhyay. "Didi [Banerjee] gave these people positions and honour. In return, they are doing this. Sudip Bandyopadhyay has a history of changing camps," TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said.
