India, May 9 -- Angel Thekkevilayil, a student of St Xavier's High School in Mira Road, underwent emergency surgery in the middle of her SSC examinations but still secured 91.4%. Rachna George, her mother, said Angel had decided at the beginning of the academic year not to attend private tuitions and instead relied on school teachers and self-study. However, during the board examinations in March, she developed a high fever. "Her condition worsened on March 13, the day of her Science 2 paper, when she experienced severe abdominal pain and was rushed to Bhaktivedanta Hospital," said George. Doctors diagnosed Angel with acute appendicitis and advised immediate surgery. Despite the pain, she requested permission to write the exam first. She even refused painkiller injections, worried they would make her drowsy during the exam. Angel was able to appear for the examination comfortably after St Paul's School, her examination centre, made special arrangements for her. Immediately after completing the Science 2 paper, she returned to the hospital and underwent surgery. After being discharged, she appeared for her Social Science paper as well....
