State sets up panel to study impact of pigeon feeding
MUMBAI, Aug. 23 -- Following a raging controversy over the closure of kabutarkhanas in the city, the state government has set up a 13-member expert committee to study the impact of pigeons' feathers and droppings on human health. It will also study whether controlled feeding is feasible, among other things.
Following a Bombay high court directive that arose out of health concerns, the BMC had shut down all kabutarkhanas in the city and covered them with plastic sheets to ensure that pigeons did not go there and that people did not feed them.
The committee will study the impact of feeding pigeons in public places and their droppings on human health, and whether it is possible to allow controlled feeding without compromising public health. The committee will be headed by Vijay Kandewad, director, public health services. P3...
