Mumbai, Oct. 2 -- Nationalist Congress Party (SP) chief Sharad Pawar and his nephew, NCP president and deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, held a closed-door meeting at the YB Chavan Centre on Wednesday. The interaction, which lasted for nearly an hour, was officially described as a discussion on the affairs of Shivnagar Vidya Prasarak Mandal, the Baramati-based educational institution headed by Pawar senior, with Ajit as its vice-president.
Sources said the two leaders also exchanged views on flood relief and mitigation measures in the wake of recent devastation across parts of Maharashtra. The timing of the meeting is significant, coming just months ahead of local body elections.
Ajit reached the venue around 5pm and later told reporters that his visit was in connection with the educational trust. "Pawar saheb is the president of Shivnagar Vidya Prasarak Mandal, and whoever becomes the president of Malegaon Sugar Factory automatically serves as its vice-president. I attended today's meeting in that capacity," he explained.
On flood relief, the deputy CM maintained that both leaders shared concerns over the crisis. "Everyone wants the affected people to be assisted. The cabinet has already decided on aid for farmers, and I briefed Pawar saheb about the situation. I am sure he will also extend help," Ajit said. Though the NCP split in 2023 widened the political divide between the uncle and nephew, they continue to meet through cooperative and educational institutions....
