Sena workers assault hospital staff over treatment, bills of 5 govindas
Palghar, Sept. 7 -- At least 17 people, mostly Shiv Sena functionaries, were booked in Palghar, after an altercation with staff at the private Relief Hospital over the discharge and medical bills of five injured Govindas participating in a Dahi Handi event.
The incident occurred around 1.15 am after troupe head Keshav Thakur sought the discharge of one injured participant. Doctors said he was still under treatment and required the consultant's approval before discharge.
A bill of Rs.19,866 had been raised for treating the five injured Govindas, with Rs.10,000 already paid by a representative of the Dahi Handi organisers.
Shiv Sena district chief Kundan Sankhe, city chief Rahul Gharat and Rohit Gavit, son of MLA Rajendra Gavit, were among those named in the FIR, while seven others remained unidentified.
Hospital staff alleged that the group abused doctors, questioned the need for scans and threatened to vandalise the premises. CCTV footage reportedly shows Gharat slapping a receptionist during the confrontation.
