MUMBAI, Aug. 12 -- Acting on a tip-off, the Mira Bhayander-Vasai Virar (MBVV) crime branch arrested a man on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway with fake currency notes valued at Rs.1 crore. Posing as decoy customers, the team set a trap at Shirsad Phata in Virar. The accused, identified as Prasad Patil, a resident of Palghar, walked into the trap and was arrested. The team seized 20,000 counterfeit Rs.500 notes from his vehicle. A case was registered against Patil at the Mandvi Police Station. Police said the accused, who is in the sand trading business, intended to sell the notes to a unidentified buyer in Mumbai. They are now interrogating him to trace the notes' source and apprehend the other ring members. Preliminary information from the accused suggests the notes originated from Wada in Palghar district. Crime Branch Unit 2 chief Aviraj Kurade said, "We suspect that Patil and his accomplices set up a workshop in Wada to print fake notes. Our teams have been dispatched there to conduct further investigation."...
