India, Sept. 8 -- The death toll from the consumption of spurious liquor in Madhya Pradesh's Sagar district climbed to 20 on Monday, officials aware of the matter said, and added that 112 people have been hospitalised so far. Police have registered an FIR against 30 individuals, including the liquor contractor, for culpable homicide not amounting to murder and arrested 10 people. The victims had consumed the spurious liquor on the intervening night of September 5 and September 6. According to the FIR lodged at Banda police station, villager Anoop Singh Lodhi alleged that around eight people were selling liquor illegally in his village. "We are awaiting test reports before taking further action against traders. Local contractors and suppliers have been booked for selling cheap liquor, which led to mass consumption," said the superintendent of police Anurag Sujania.
