minor among 3 held for killing homeless man over sleep spot
MUMBAI, March 25 -- A 52-year-old man was beaten to death by three individuals, including a minor, following a dispute over sleeping space in south Mumbai's Kalbadevi area on Monday night, police said.
The deceased, Dilip Ghorai, a tiffin delivery worker, slept with his son in a parking area in Badam Wadi.
According to investigators, three persons, including a minor, who were new to the area tried to occupy the same space, leading to an argument.
The dispute escalated into violence as the accused, identified as Salman Shaikh, 30, Mohammad Shaikh, 30, and a 17-year-old, allegedly kicked and punched Ghorai, causing fatal head and body injuries.
Locals, alerted by the noise, eventually woke up and intervened. Police said they rushed the injured man to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead.
The LT Marg Police Station registered a case of murder under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
All three accused have been taken into custody, and the minor has been produced before the Juvenile Justice Board, officials said....
