Chandigarh, June 26 -- Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday denied being the individual featured in a video that has drawn a religious edict against him, claiming the footage was shot in a hotel room in Abbotsford, Canada, using a sophisticated face mask designed to resemble his features.
Addressing a press conference in Chandigarh, Mann identified a Canada-based man named Jagman Samra as the main blackmailer purportedly behind the plot and presented video clips of him holding the physical mask while sitting in a car.
Hitting out at opposition parties, Mann said,"...Politically, they (the opposition) have been reduced to zero on the ground. Now they have stooped to a level where, almost every day, some order or directive is issued with the intention of tarnishing my religious image," the chief minister said.
Meanwhile, the Congress rejected Mann's "mask" defence, terming it a "lame afterthought" aimed at defending the indefensible. Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring said: "I won't be surprised if Mann comes with some other lame defence tomorrow," he said, remarking that Mann's advisors were taking him for a ride with silly and funny defence like today's....
