MUMBAI, Sept. 26 -- Prasad Purohit was promoted to the rank of Colonel from Lt Colonel, days after his acquittal in the 2008 Malegaon bomb blasts case, in a ceremony at the army's Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa HQs in Mumbai's Colaba, people aware of the matter said on Thursday. Purohit, who is set to retire in a few months, had missed his earlier chance at promotion due to the case. Army officials said he was granted a Colonel (Time Scale) promotion, typically given to officers who have completed 26 years of service, are medically fit, but have not cleared the selection board.
