MUMBAI, Aug. 9 -- The Indian Railways (IR) has ratified a policy to monetise vacant elevated decks at local railway stations and areas around foot overbridges for retail, allowing the ever-in-a-hurry local commuter the opportunity to pick up groceries, meals and other services while on the go. In its first phase, the initiative aims to convert underutilised infrastructure at busy suburban stations such as Andheri, Borivali, Khar and Mira Road into convenient retail spaces while generating revenue through rentals. These stations have been chosen for their high passenger footfall and sizeable elevated deck areas.
