MUMBAI, Aug. 9 -- A 24-year-old law graduate died by suicide in Bandra East on Friday, with his family alleging that he had been harassed and threatened by a woman friend and her sister. The Kherwadi police have registered a case against the two women for alleged abetment of suicide. The deceased, who lived with his parents and younger brother, had been disturbed for the past few days, according to the police. "He told his family that his female friend, with whom he used to study, and her sister had been threatening him with a police complaint for the past few days," said a police officer from Kherwadi police station. The nature of the allegations the women intended to make was not immediately clear. The police said the deceased had asked his parents to speak to one of his male friends. While his mother was speaking to the friend, the latter received an audio message from the deceased indicating that he was taking his own life because of the alleged harassment, the officer said. The deceased's parents then found that he had locked himself in his room. While they called for a locksmith to open the door, the deceased was found dead on the podium of his apartment building. His family took him to Sion Hospital, where he was declared dead, according to the police. A post-mortem examination is expected to establish the cause of death. The police said the deceased and his female friend had studied together in Bengaluru. However, he had been working from home since March after getting a job. The police added that the two women had also sent messages to the deceased's brother threatening to file a police complaint against him.
