hc: Mallya's plea for debt details not maintainable
Bengaluru, Oct. 29 -- The Karnataka high court on Tuesday said that fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya's plea seeking details of his outstanding debt and recoveries made by banks might not be maintainable.
Justice Lalitha Kanneganti said that Mallya, who had moved the HC in February, should have approached the Company Court instead. "How is this maintainable before this court? The company petitions are there if you are interested to implead yourself and get all these details. On the face of it, the prayer is not maintainable," the judge said.
Mallya, who fled to the UK in 2016, has asked for a statement of accounts of recoveries made from him and his defunct company, United Breweries Holdings Limited. He claimed that while the Debt Recovery Tribunal had ordered him to pay Rs.6,200 crore, banks recovered Rs.14,000 crore. Advocate Krutika Raghavan, representing the official liquidator, said her office had already sought similar details from SBI before the company Court....
