MUMBAI, Sept. 25 -- The state forest department has issued an order to "divert" 4.985 hectares of forest land for the goods siding yard at Boisar railway station. This will be much in demand after the construction of the proposed port in Vadhavan. Sources said there were two goods yards currently operating outside Boisar railway station. The yard near Boisar station handles freight trains and around 100 wagons a day while the other yard near Khairapada Bridge is used to transport heavy goods. The new yard is being constructed for the expected boom after Vadhavan Port and the two townships planned subsequently in Palghar are built. The Forest Advisory Committee of the union ministry of environment, forest and climate change granted the approval for the diversion of the forest land this January. The exact number of trees to be felled has not been announced yet. Apart from the forest land, the Boisar siding yard will require an additional 7.7 hectares of non-forest land....
