MUMBAI, May 27 -- A 24-year-old biker on his way to a relative's wedding with a friend died in Ghatkopar West on Monday evening after a dumper driver lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the bike. The impact left the victim grievously injured. A constable on duty, Ganesh Chapte, responded to an alert at 6 pm about an accident at Naupada BMC Chowk on LBS Road and found the bike rider lying on the road with severe injuries. The injured biker, identified as Chandan Jaylal Roy by the pillion rider, was rushed to Rajawadi hospital in Ghatkopar by police in an autorickshaw, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. "People had gathered at the accident spot and few of them had broken the truck's windshield by throwing stones at it," said a police officer. "The dumper driver had fled from the spot." A case was registered against the absconding driver at the Ghatkopar Police Station on the night of the accident under sections 106, 125 and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
