MUMBAI, Oct. 11 -- Thousands gathered at Nana Chowk on Saturday to protest the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, and also support the Cockroach Janta Party's (CJP) protest in New Delhi. Organised by Hum Bharat Ke Log, a civil society collective led by veteran activist and great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, Tushar Gandhi, Mumbaikars, including activists, turned up in large numbers. Police barricaded the August Kranti Maidan - the venue for the protest - forcing protesters to assemble at Nana Chowk. Police claim around 600 citizens were detained from across the city, including Gandhi, his daughter Kasturi Gandhi, actor Imran Khan, Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Varun Sardesai and CPI leader Prakash Reddy.
