CM seeks Wipro's help to ease B'luru traffic woes
Bengaluru, Sept. 24 -- Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah has turned to one of the state's most prominent technology companies for help in tackling severe traffic congestion on Bengaluru's Outer Ring Road, writing to Wipro founder Azim Premji to request cooperation in easing congestion.
The appeal, made in a letter, comes as the Congress government faces mounting criticism from business leaders and opposition parties over crumbling road infrastructure. The city's deteriorating mobility has become a flashpoint.
In his letter, Siddaramaiah praised Wipro's contributions to Karnataka's growth but flagged the Iblur junction on the Outer Ring Road as a choke point where severe congestion during peak hours has been damaging productivity and urban life. He proposed allowing limited vehicle access through the company's campus under agreed security conditions.
"One of the key challenges currently facing Bengaluru, particularly along the Outer Ring Road corridor at Iblur junction, is severe traffic congestion during peak hours, which adversely impacts mobility, productivity, and the quality of urban life," he wrote. Citing mobility experts, he added that "such a measure could reduce congestion on adjoining stretches of the ORR by nearly 30%, particularly during peak office hours."
The chief minister urged Wipro to work with state officials to design a "mutually acceptable plan at the earliest," framing the idea as a model for public-private cooperation in solving the city's infrastructure problems. "Your support in this matter will go a long way in easing traffic bottlenecks, enhancing commuter experience, and contributing to a more efficient and livable Bengaluru," he said.
