Mumbai, March 23 -- A 75-year-old woman was allegedly tied to a bed and beaten by her caretaker at a senior care facility in Borivali. The caretaker, identified as Surekha Pawar, 30, was booked on Saturday for assaulting the elderly resident at Sai Senior Care Foundation. According to police, the victim, Vishali Ajwelkar, who has been staying at the facility for the past six months, was assaulted on March 11 after repeatedly seeking assistance to use the washroom. The accused allegedly refused to help and later tied the woman's hands to the bed while she was asleep before beating her with a broom. She also allegedly threatened the victim with further violence if she spoke about the incident. Fearing retaliation, the woman remained silent. The matter came to light on March 20, when a team including a woman police officer visited the facility and spoke to residents. They inquired about her condition, following which she recounted the incident.
