Anand steps in as interm fide president
Bengaluru, July 25 -- Five-time world champion Viswanathan Anand seems poised to run for International Chess Federation (Fide) deputy president for a second time. Late on Thursday, Anand stepped in to take on the duties of interim president after its Russian head Arkady Dvorkovich, was placed on the latest European Union sanctions list.
Dvorkovich sought a third term in office, with Kazakh billionaire Timur Turlov as the deputy. After the sanctions were imposed, however, Turlov announced his candidacy for presidency on Friday, replacing Dvorkovich. Anand, who was elected deputy president in 2022 and had planned to step back from the upcoming elections, is now back in the race....
